I once heard Zig Ziglar energetically declare, “Happiness is not leisure, it is victory!”
Today I read a great example of this. A Sand Springs, Oklahoma firefighter named Ray Hall—an avid bicyclist—dreamed of winning gold in the World Police and Fire Games. So he and his wife and child drove their van 2,100 miles to Vancouver, British Columbia to participate in the 2009 Games.
They drove because they could not afford to fly.
They slept in the van because they didn’t have money for a hotel.
They took home the gold.
Think these folks are happy?
I’ll bet they’re on top of the world.
Money does not provide happiness.
What does this have to do with business ownership, the focus of this publication?
Plenty.
Many find themselves thinking they need the material things in life, but comfort and niceties drain cash, put undue strain on us and our businesses, and fail to add to our happiness or security. Don’t fall into this trap. If you’re already in it, pull yourself out. Simplify. Reduce. Save. Go for what will really make you happy: victory in the pursuit of your personal goals and dreams.
